Northcore Minerals License (PLLS356) Project areas
Northcore Minerals Limited, a Zambian registered company actively exploring for copper within the Domes Region of the Zambian Copper Belt in Central Zambia has a current license area (PLLS356 – 4,563square kilometers) which has been subdivided into five project areas totaling 4,138sqkm. Complying with the Minerals Development Bill of 2008, each project area is the required size or less as stipulated in the “Bill” of 1,000sqkm in size and individual licenses will be applied for during the First Quarter 2009.
The project areas comprise the following highlights:
Mukulefumo (Dominates the NW area of the original license area)
Size: 999.9sqkm
Over 74 linear kilometers of Basement / Lower Roan contact zone
425sqkm Lower Roan host lithologies and over 47sqkm of Undifferentiated Lower Roan rocks
Area was not covered by VTEM or completely by soil traverses during the 2008 field season. A detailed grid was completed over the Tomato showing however, no indication of copper mineralization was detected.
The 2009 field season is planned to cover the contact zone of the Basement / Lower Roan and Upper Roan lithologies with regional soil sampling and geological mapping. A widely spaced (400m lines) VTEM survey is planned to cover the project area.
A single historical geochem target (1) locates within the project area.
Mitumba (Dominates the western portion of the license area)
Size: 1,000sqkm
Over 61 linear kilometers of Basement / Lower Roan contact zone
202sqkm Lower Roan host lithologies
VTEM survey in 2008 identified two possible drill sites (#01 and #20) in two separate target areas (1a and 1b) with soil geochem coincidence.
Northern portion of the license area was not covered by the 2008 VTEM survey
Basement / Lower Roan / Upper Roan contact zones covered by regional soil geochem, traverses spaced approx. 1km apart. At least three soil geochem targets have been identified north of the area covered by the 2008 VTEM survey. Additional sampling will be considered to confirm the lateral extent of one target area into the Basement lithologies from the Upper Roan.
A widely spaced (400m lines) VTEM survey is planned to cover the northern portion of the project area.
Seven historical geochem targets locate within the project area and have been covered by soil sample lines with anomalous values returned.
Munkumpu (Dominates the western portion of the license area)
Size: 1,000sqkm
Over 26 linear kilometers of Basement / Lower Roan contact zone
333sqkm Lower Roan host lithologies
Northern portion of the license area was not covered by the 2008 VTEM survey
VTEM survey in 2008 identified nine possible drill sites (#6 - #10, #15 - #18) in four separate target areas (5 – 8) with anomalous coincident soil geochem responses and underlain by interpreted stratigraphically younger Mwashia Group lithologies .
Grab rock samples returned a maximum copper value of 0.31% from a sample in close proximity to proposed hole #15.
Basement / Lower Roan / Upper Roan contact zones covered by regional soil geochem, traverses spaced approx. 1km apart.
Puku (Dominates the southern portion of the license area)
Size: 1,000sqkm
Over 33 linear kilometers of Basement / Lower Roan contact zone
315sqkm Lower Roan host lithologies and over 308sqkm of Undifferentiated Lower Roan rocks
VTEM survey in 2008 identified ten possible drill sites (#2 - #5, #11 – #14, #19 and #21) in four separate target areas (2a, 2b, 3 and 4) with anomalous coincident soil geochem responses and underlain primarily by Lower Roan lithologies.
Basement / Lower Roan / Upper Roan contact zones covered by regional soil geochem, traverses spaced approx. 1km apart with encouraging results and closely associated with the VTEM target areas.
Detailed soil geochem grid over the Puku showing, lateral extensions to the SE.
Historical trenches exposed a silicified, gossanous fault zone, grab rock sample returned 1.57% Cu
9 trenches excavated along a strike length of approximately 330m. A maximum value of 2,120ppm Cu / 1.00m from weathered graphitic shale horizon confirms the overlying soil geochem sampling across the area that returned a peak value of 103ppm Cu.
Shallow pits and trenches located NW of Puku were sampled, however no copper mineralization was detected from the mainly quartz vein material exposed by artisanal gemstone prospectors.
Four historical geochem targets locate within the project area covered by soil sample lines and returned anomalous values.
Kantobo (Located to the west of Puku)
Size: 137.8sqkm
Underlain by stratigraphically youger Kundulungu sediments of the Katanga Sequence.
Historically “mined” by previous license holders for secondary copper mineralzation hosted in a brecciated, saprolitic phyllite zone.
Six boreholes drilled by Northcore in 2007 totalling 699.97m. Assays from hole KTM003 returned peak values of 7,690ppm Cu / 0.20m (Quartz vein) and 6,997ppm Cu / 1.00m from a depth of 44.20m and an intersection of 0.47% Cu / 14.00m from a depth of 41.00m.
Detailed soil geochem grids completed in 2007.
Detailed soil sampling in the SW corner of the license block confirmed the historically identified copper / zinc in soil anomaly striking NW towards the Wambo target area on the Nthere license.
